CHOOSING BY FUNCTION
THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING
- If you need more than size X, only jumbo slab available.
- Make sure edge you want or need is available
- What is your appetite for maintenance
- If local water is heavy in minerals, the water will leave spots on solid-colored, dark countertops
- Desired thickness and what’s possible with materials. 3/4” and 1 1/4” are typical sizes. Not all materials have both. You can achieve a chunkier 2-3” thickness by having edges mitered to appear thicker than they are.
TIPS FOR ORDERING
- Approve your slab at the stoyeyard. Each stone or dye lot is different. Can review with fabricator which part of the stone you definitely want or don’t want.
- Review seam locations. Where can they be more concealed or kept clean?
- Some materials seam better than others (less visible)
- If need a small amount, ask for a remnant versus a new piece
- Don’t forget install costs and tax when comparing quotes
