Concrete: Natural material
Pros/cons:
- Durable, but can chip and scratch and develop hairline cracks
- Heat resistant
- Highly customizable
- Can be seamless
- Expensive
- Crack if not sealed correctly each year
- Susceptible to staining, especially from oils.
- Has a clean, modern appearance
How to clean and maintain concrete:
- Use a gentle, non-acidic cleaner like dish soap and warm water. 1 teaspoon of dish soap to 4 cups of water in a spray bottle will work well.
- Wring the non-abrasive cloth/sponge so there is no standing water on the surface when you wipe it
- Wipe in smooth, even, controlled movements as you wash in small circles
- Rub down with clean cloth and water when finished
- Let air dry
- Add a coat of sealant or wax for more protection
- Not sealing is ok but is more susceptible to scratching and staining without it
- Topical sealers protect against stains, but not heat. Penetrating sealers protect against heat, not stains.
- Wax once/month to resist spotting and staining and leave shiny
- For stains, spot clean with cleaner of your choice and a cotton ball. For example, soak cotton ball in laundry detergent or stain spray or bleach and set on stain for a few minutes (not more than ten minutes).
