- Adds warmth to your space
- Has antibacterial properties
- It is easily stained, scratched and nicked
- Stains cannot be removed from washing, need to sand and reseal
- Not heat resistant
- Ability to refinish by sanding and resealing
- Requires sealant, like mineral oil, beeswax or tung oil
- Not water resistant and moisture can warp it, so be careful near the sink especially (consider multiple applications of sealant to avoid water damage)
- Limited color options
How to care and maintain bamboo:
- Wipe with a damp cloth and sponge
- Use an all-purpose, non-abrasive cleaner
- Do not use harsh chemicals or ammonia
- Wipe spills up quickly to avoid staining
- Mineral oil and beeswax are best sealants for bamboo
- Tung oil is another sealant, but derived from nuts so could cause an allergic reaction
- Apply sealant once/month
- When applying sealant, follow the grains of the bamboo
