Construction Documentation

The system that holds your renovation together

Why It Matters

Construction Documentation is the backbone of a successful renovation.
It’s not a binder full of ideas. It’s a structured, clear record of decisions that have already been made.

It exists to protect the timeline, the budget, the craftsmanship, and your vision.

Without it, things fall apart.
Details get lost in text threads. Specs are pulled from outdated PDFs. The wrong item shows up. The wrong hole is cut.
Someone says “I thought we were doing matte black” when the faucet was ordered in brass six weeks ago.

A renovation is hundreds of small decisions. Construction Documentation is how you hold them in one place.

What It Includes

Every project is different, but a well-structured Construction Documentation system typically includes:

  • Final floor plans

  • Cabinet drawings and elevations

  • Finish work details (trim profiles, paneling, etc.)

  • Lighting plan and all fixture spec sheets

  • Appliance schedule with model numbers and installation info

  • Plumbing fixture schedule

  • Tile and grout selections

  • Paint schedule with brand, color, and finish

  • Final material palette or moodboard

  • A binder index or table of contents

Each file should be labeled clearly.
Every section should be easy to navigate.

This is not a mood board. This is not a Pinterest folder.
This is your install manual.

How It Works

We organize Construction Documentation digitally using a simple, room-by-room structure.
Each space gets its own digital binder.

Each binder includes:

  • Only items that are finalized and ordered

  • One section per category (Floor Plan, Cabinetry, Lighting, etc.)

  • Embedded files, links to spec sheets, product pages, or PDFs

  • A QR code that can be scanned on-site by anyone who needs access

We recommend printing the QR code and placing it:

  • On the wall of the room (inside a cabinet door or near the light switch)

  • On the cover of the physical binder (if you're using one)

Now everyone on your team is looking at the same thing. Not screenshots. Not guesses.
The right file. The right version. Every time.

The Rule

Nothing goes in the binder unless it has been ordered.

This is what keeps your project clean.
It protects the design. It protects the client. It protects the work.

Explore the System

If you're curious what this looks like in action, we’ve built an example Construction Documentation binder for a real kitchen project.

You can explore the structure, copy the template, or start building your own.
